The cutoff with five blinds is 74 hands, almost 38% of combos: more than a third of the deck correctly goes all-in. Only three players are left behind you, and the stack leaves no time to be picky.
Push from CO, 5 BB stack
Inside — every pair, any ace (A2o included), kings from K3s and K9o, queens from Q5s, and a tail that would look insane at a deep stack: Q9o, J9o, T9o, T7s. The logic is simple: the dead money in the blinds is nearly a third of your stack, there is still fold equity to be had, and even when called, most of these hands hold 30–40% equity. Folding them means passing up a pot you will soon be paying into yourself from the blinds.
What stays a fold even here: the offsuit bottom like 84o, J5o, Q6o — hands with no pair, no ace and no connectedness don't have the equity, either against a call or in total with the folds.
A practical tip: at 5 BB from the cutoff the mistake is almost always on the tight side. If you're not sure whether a hand is in the range — it probably is. Test your intuition in the trainer or check the short-stack master chart.
